Hello to all!

If you are receiving this email, it means I want to include you in the updates and goings on in my life as I work to massively disrupt the setting I have built for myself over these past six+ years. I value each one of your opinions and perspectives and there is nothing too critical or too harsh that would make me doubt the place your concerns or comments come from. I'll be sending these updates at the beginning of each Quarter, but I'm well aware that people already receive too many emails and have too much going on in their life. That being said, any feedback is appreciated but not expected, and if these updates become too cumbersome or annoying, please let me know.

With that, I'll explain the content of this email -- There are four documents attached, each with its respective explanation below. Document One is the most important as it covers the Quarterly goals I will be measuring myself to and the rest are there for those who wish to dive into the details.

Document 1 - Quarterly Goals

This document contains the Quarterly Goals (this is starting as of Feb 12, so all the goals are relevant to only the remaining 49 days of the quarter). These are the targets I’m aiming for in the different “categories” of my life and the priorities I’m focused on for the current period. Some of these goals may seem strange and unrelated but they work to accomplish an objective or overcome some challenge I've set for myself. These goals are also designed to be more focused on Input (factors that I have direct control over) rather than Output (results that usually result from the input but are harder to predict and may be impacted by other factors). Each has a Minimum, Goal, and Stretch column, and within the category, each goal should be read horizontally across the page:

  • Goal is the intention

  • Stretch is a larger target that I’m aiming for but understand there are obstacles to meeting this

    • NA means there is no stretch goal for this item

  • Minimum is the requirement I’m holding myself to

    • If the Minimum is not reached, typically it means something is wrong and my plan/approach needs to be reassessed

    • It may also mean that I need help/assistance from others with reassessing

    • Minimums that have “NA” mean that there is no minimum and missing the goal means that other priorities came up (no concerns here)

    • à” means that the Goal is the minimum and no less will be satisfactory

Two categories (Game Development & Program Management AI) have Output Objectives as well. These are captured here to call attention to the specific artifacts to be produced from these efforts and have relative items captured in the specific project’s schedules.

For those looking to provide some feedback, what I request is your opinion of what I have set out to do and whether they seem realistic.

Document 2 - GameDev Schedule

Document2-GameDevSchedule.pdf

Document2-GameDevSchedule.pdf

68.55 KBPDF File

This is a two year schedule focused on learning the elements of Game Development and building toward the release of some larger product at the end of two years. Each line represents an effort to be broken down into tasks managed in Jira (more metrics to come on this at some point). The colors represent efforts that are related to one another usually tie the completion of an overarching artifact, typically where the matching colors end within a given month. This schedule will likely transition to software better suited for maintaining it and be broken into more detail - but will also be updated given my progress along this path and delivered with each quarterly update as well.

The top of the schedule also notes the tentative plan for travel. Considering I don't want to be working full time while traveling, the lengths of items falling within that period have also been adjusted accordingly.

Document 3 - PMAI Schedule

This is another multi-year schedule focused on developing the Program Management AI Tool Suite. The left column has an initial concept of big items I think are milestones along the road, but much more research and planning is required (captured in the first line item)

Document 4 - Quarterly Deep Work Sessions

Document4-QuarterlyDeepWorkSessions.pdf

Document4-QuarterlyDeepWorkSessions.pdf

151.74 KBPDF File

The last document is a breakdown of the quarter’s “Deep Work Sessions.” These sessions are blocks of time dedicated to focused, distraction free work, and each session is dedicated to accomplishing a specific task called out in the schedule. This document as also been updated to date which is why you will see a difference of color and some NA's applicable to items in the past.

Thank you again for everything you all do for me, and I look forward to whatever the future has in store for each of us.
